Low Seating

This iconic chair was designed in 1960 by Japanese Architect and designer Daisaku Choh 長大作 as part of a series of small chairs. It was first unveiled in Milan. I've seen this chair labelled, the Teiza chair, the Sakura chair, the Low chair model "T-5016N" and the Chuza chair. No matter the name this is without a doubt a classic. At only 29cm high, the chair is made for low-level living. It is said to have been influenced by his meeting French designer Charlotte Perriand, the famous associate of Le Corbusier.

The chair was re-released a couple of years ago by Tendo Ply (the same company responsible for keeping designs like the iconic Sori Yanagi stool in production) and has continued to grow in popularity since. In Japan the chair sells for around $525, whilst here some cheeky US retailers have been selling the chair for the outrageous price of $1500 !

Now in his 80s, Choh-San is still designing and in the press having appeared recently in Monocle, GA Houses and Casa Brutus.
