* Brilliant MOMA exhibition "New Perspectives in Latin American Art, 1930–2006: Selections from a Decade of Acquisitions" featuring a number of strong "Metaesquema" graphics from Hélio Oiticica as well as some stunning pin produced vintage "Perfurados" pieces from Swiss-Brazilian Mira Schendel, the fantastic "drawing no 1" from Hercules Barsotti and two fantastic "yesterday, today, tomorrow" graphics from contemporary Brazilian artist Jose Damasceno. Also at MOMA a small exhibition on "50 Years of Helvetica" and a room of Ellsworth Kelly works including the classic cut-up piece he made in Paris "Study for Meschers (1951)" which pre-dates Brion Gysin's discovery of cut-up at the Beat Hotel a few years later.

* Mizell Brothers in town at the party for the new Waxpoetics book in Williamsburg. I initiated and co-produced (with Larry) the Blue Note album MIZELL. A fascinating story in itself. Read a fantastic in depth interview expose with the brothers from the Redbull Academy

Music From Japan's excellent concert featuring works by the man who most influenced my ears in 2007 Toru Takemitsu

the new Fatih Akin movie at Lincoln Centre - a great film. Not as intense as Head-On but it does deal with many of the same themes. To sum it up without getting into too much detail I'd say that at the end it's a movie about compassion.

He didn't tell me about it till the day of so I wasn't able to post a birthday shout out to one of my favorite people in New York - the exceptionally talented photographer and film maker / star in the making Timothy Saccenti. He's one of the reasons I started this blog and a constant source of inspiration and support. Good luck this year Tim it's going to be a BIG ONE for ya. Maybe you saw his videos for Battles and Animal Collective - get set 'cause a video for Jamie Lidell is coming next.
